Tangazo is a meeting place where we share ideas and explore efforts to improve our human conditions and quite simply make our lives better. All are welcome, none will be judged, but all are challenged to look beyond ourselves and our notions of how others think about issues of cultural, political and social significance. We are building bridges of communication between the many groups that make up the St. Louis Metropolitan Region by sharing and reflecting on the stories and lives of a diverse group of guests.

Our guests on this episode of Tangazo continue the conversation on violent crime in the Saint Louis area and focus on Mayor Tishaura O. Jones’ downtown crime initiative. Host Hank Thompson is joined by Angela Pearson, Special Projects Manager for Mayor Jones, who acts as liaison for a number of groups leading the way to revival of the downtown area. Also joining this episode is Tangazo commentator Tim Person.

Today’s panel takes a close look at the strategies Mayor Jones is putting forth to reduce crime in the area, including the introduction of activities for young people that would give outlets for their energy rather than the committing of crimes. Also discussed is the curfew for those under 18 that is still in effect for downtown and the thirty or so mobile reserve police officers deployed on weekends, all of which seems to be contributing to an almost thirty percent decrease in murders over the past six months.
